The Suffern Police Department DARE Street Hockey League was formed in the winter of 1998. At it’s inception, the league consisted of 5th and 6th grade students from the Suffern Central School District who comprised 6 teams. After greatly increasing it’s registration the league expanded to include both younger and older players who played weekly games at the Suffern Community Center.
In September, 2002 the league raised the funds and constructed a street hockey rink on Yorkshire Drive which still serves as the leagues home up to the present day.
The league currently has a fall division consisting of players in grades 2 through 6 and a spring league consisting of players in grades 6-12. The games are played in sneakers with players wearing full equipment which is provided by the league. The league has a dedicated volunteer coaching staff and a team of knowledgeable officials.
